A set of priors I try to live from.

We will die. Time is finite. Most of the others reorder around it. Time does not refund, so an hour spent is gone, not lent. Taken seriously rather than just known, it changes what you tolerate, what you postpone, and who you spend your hours with. Most people technically believe this and still do not live from it.

Reality, physics, does not care about our feelings. The terrain is indifferent. Wanting something to be true exerts zero force on whether it is. This is the one that kills wishful thinking. You do not get credit for intentions, and the world does not bend to how badly you feel, so you either model reality accurately or you pay for the gap.

We control our actions, not outcomes, but our actions have consequences in reality. You command your effort, not the result, so staking your peace on outcomes you cannot control is a losing bet. But the second half matters as much as the first. Detachment from outcomes is not indifference to them. Actions land in a real, indifferent world and produce real effects, so you aim, you act, then you release the result without pretending it does not count.

Meaning is made, either implicitly or explicitly. It is never found. There is no purpose floating in the universe waiting to be located, because meaning only ever exists to a subject. What you genuinely find is fit, meaning real facts about what you are built to care about lining up with something that matches them. But the meaning itself is a charge you built, usually implicitly, across years, beneath notice. That is why finding your thing feels like discovery. The making was invisible and slow, the match arrives in a vivid instant, and the brain credits the part it can see. Found materials, made meaning.
You become what you repeatedly do and engage with, increasingly more through a law of compounding
You become what you repeatedly do and engage with, increasingly more through a law of compounding. Identity is not declared, it is accreted. Repeated action and chosen engagement compound into character the way interest compounds, slowly and then steeply. This makes the actions taken on a normal Tuesday a more serious question than the grand intention you have in mind, although a deep desire to fulfill the latter is extremely important. The verbs are active on purpose. You are shaped by what you do with your inputs, not merely by what happens to you.
The law runs both directions. Entropy is the default and order is the exception, so anything you have built decays toward disorder the moment you stop feeding it attention. Neglect is not neutral, it is the universe reclaiming what you assembled against the grain, and maintenance is not optional upkeep but the continuous tax you pay to hold entropy off whatever you have made.

Attention is the raw material of your life, your perception of life is dependent on what you attend to. Your experienced life is built entirely out of what you attend to, because there is no experience outside attention. Two people in the same situation live different lives depending on where they point it. So where attention goes is not a productivity concern, it is the substance of existence itself, and whatever captures it is quietly authoring your reality.
Pain and discomfort are inevitable, but suffering is negotiable
Pain and discomfort are inevitable, but suffering is negotiable. Pain is the raw sensation. Suffering is the relationship you have to it, the story, the resistance, the sense that this should not be happening. The first is non negotiable as the cost of being alive. The second is something you can change by changing how you carry it. Pain is the event, suffering is the second arrow you fire at yourself, and that arrow you can choose not to draw.
Any other human is as vivid and as real as we are
Any other human is as vivid and as real as we are. Every other person carries an interior as full and immediate and real as your own. They are not props or instruments in your story.
Your model of the world is always incomplete, and therefore, the world is inherently partially uncertain from your perspective
Your model of reality, your map, is always incomplete. The map is never the territory, so act on it anyway and update when reality pushes back. Whatever you know is a compression of the world, never the world itself. Your map leaves things out by necessity, which is why the unexpected is normal rather than exceptional, and why being blindsided is a permanent feature of operating as a human, not a sign you did it wrong unless you knowingly could have fixed it prior.
This pairs with reality's indifference to make the full anti delusion stance, because the terrain is both uncaring and only partly visible to you. The trap to avoid is letting it rot into so you cannot know anything, which becomes an excuse never to commit. An incomplete map is the only kind there is, so you act on your best one while holding it loosely, and you let the territory correct you the moment it pushes back.
To minimize uncertainty, truth seek to maximize certainty.
There is always an opportunity cost
Some goods are structurally opposed, and not just competing for time. Choosing is built into the nature of the goods, not a scheduling problem you can optimize away. Beyond the obvious fact that finite time forces selection, there is a deeper cost that would exist even with infinite time.

You cannot be both maximally open and maximally deep, because keeping the option is the very thing that prevents the commitment. You cannot have both freedom and the weight of having chosen, both breadth and mastery.
These conflict in principle, not on the calendar, so no amount of cleverness or hedging dissolves them.
To choose one is to kill the others, and refusing to choose is itself a choice that costs. There is no position outside the tradeoff. The lives you did not live are not evidence you chose wrong, because the cost was present in every branch, which means paying it is not a mistake to mourn, but rather to accept because you made that choice.
Your biology is ancient and runs its own agenda
You are running very old firmware, built for survival and reproduction in a world of scarcity and small tribes, now operating in abundance and novelty it was never shaped for. Much of what feels like personal failure is hardware software mismatch, not a verdict on your character. Cravings, status anxiety, the pull toward the easy and the immediate, the way novelty hijacks you, these are defaults from an old environment, not signals about the present one. This does not excuse anything, because knowing the instrument is biased is exactly what lets you correct for it. The operator is not neutral, so treating your own impulses as raw data to be checked rather than commands to be followed is the whole skill. You steer the machine, but only if you remember it has its own pull.
